Hello. My name is Layle and, like thousands of others, I'm addicted to Pinterest.
If you're not familiar with this little gem, it's a virtual pinboard that lets you organize and store images you find on the web.
A few months ago I saw a fantastic idea on Pinterest, pinned it, and it's been on my mind ever since.
If you're getting ready to throw away all of the cards you received this year, STOP.
Finally. An idea for all of those photo Christmas cards I've been saving for years. And when I say saving, I mean throwing in a box. And when I say years, I mean more than 10...
So a few weeks ago, I put the idea to work and quickly put this together -
A book to hold all of the photo Christmas cards from 2010.
I found this white hardcover book at a secondhand store this summer. Quite the bargain at $1, I knew with 'joy' printed in gold metallic foil on the front that I'd figure out how to use it for something Christmas related one day.
I used an xacto knife to cut the spine, punched holes in the front and back covers and the Christmas cards and then used rings to put it all together.
Finished it off with a cranberry flower center embellishment, some word stickers, number stickers for the year, and voila!
From this - the vintage metal bankers box I use to display during the holidays the cards we receive
to this - the cards for the last 10+ years are no longer floating in a box, they're now organized in large ziplock baggies until I find a rainy day to make the books for the past years...
to this - 2010 complete!
Hope to make it back to the secondhand store this week to search out more fun books to use for more years. I figure I'll try to keep them all about the same size - this one is about 6x9 - and use a vintage metal locker basket to display them in each year during the holidays.
I love going through the Christmas photos from each year and seeing how everyone's kids have grown.
Gosh, I love Pinterest!
Love even MORE putting the ideas to use!
I'm a saver. I have birthday cards, Valentine's Day cards, Mother's Day cards saved - you name it, and I've got it saved. Thinking this would be a fun idea to do with those cards as well. Stay tuned....
