Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific
Remember that shampoo a long time ago called "Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific"? It was a big hit in the 70's. I loved the smell of that shampoo. And yes, I realize I'm dating myself by bringing this up...
Remember the commercial? A pretty blond with long curly hair swinging her head back and forth. You could almost smell her hair through the tv. Almost.
Remember the part of the commercial that showed one of the blond's friends replicating herself over and over and over again? And the announcer that said "and they'll tell two friends and so on and so on and so on..."?
What does this have to do with anything? Bear with me. My brain works in really weird ways. (yes, I know you're nodding your head after reading this and thinking to yourself 'amen, sista').
I was blog hopping a few weeks back (don't get me started on that, I could do it for days on end). I think I started at the Pink Paislee blog, then I linked to the blog of one of their design team members and it took me to someone else's blog and so on and so on and so on (see, I told you the Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific reference would make sense. Or not.) and I eventually made my way to the Studio Calico blog.
And now, you can say you've experienced your first Layler ... (definition to be found here)
There really is a point to this post and I'm going to get to it now before I lose the few of you that have stuck with me to this point and are still following along.
While I was on their blog, I saw this layout by April Foster, the Creative Director for Studio Calico.
After being inspired by April's layout, I made this one a few weekends ago. Truth be told, I should probably say 'lifted' vs. 'inspired', because that's
pretty much what I did. And I'm not ashamed to say it, I liked her
design that much. I used our Label Rub-ons to frame some of the photos from our trip to Hawaii and some stickers from our Grafton line.
OK, to be truthful I spent about an hour on the Studio Calico blog and then on their site that night. If you're looking for inspiration (or flat out 'lifts' with proper credit due, of course), there's a TON to be had there.
By the way, you can STILL buy Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo here. At a whopping $14.95 a bottle for a shampoo you could once buy at the grocery store, looks like gas isn't the only commodity going through the roof these days. I certainly didn't do the grocery shopping back in the mid 70's (come on, I'm getting old but not THAT old) so I'm not sure how much a bottle of this stuff ran you back then, but I can pretty much guarantee it wasn't $14.95.

Seriously love this layout! (both). I get their kits and had no idea they had a blog.

OH WOW...this is scary. I just checked your blog today and it has been quite some time since I've read it and when I saw that shampoo bottle I almost fell out of my chair!!! Just last night I was saying to my husband "Gee your hair smells terrific" then I would giggle and say "ha ha get it?" No he didn't get it! He never had the shampoo obviously! LOL I remember that and "turn up the volume with AGREE"
This was very strange to see that you were in my head already, lol.

Thanks for the enabling ;). I ordered some of this shampoo for my sister for her birthday. She and I always used this and "had" to have it. $14.95 is a little pricey, but worth it for the fun, unique gift and memories. Love you layout. I had seen the same one and want to lift it also. Great job!

Love the lo! Studio Calico rocks! And so does April's lo and your "lift"!

I loved that shampoo as a kid. You're right, no way did it cost that much - my mom won't pay that much for shampoo now, let alone then!
That is a great layout. I think I may have to lift it myself! :D

Saw your "Gee your hair" pic and comments and LOVED it. I remember those commercials so well. But the "she told two friends" was Faberge Organics, not this shampoo. That other one, with the two friends and multiplying photos on the screen was one of my personal faves. The commercials are on you Tube. Heather Locklear did one of them. 14.95 a bottle, yikes! I wonder if it still smells good?!

LOL! I definitely remember "Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific"! LOL! And what about the shampoo "Beer on Tap"? Am I remembering that right? Love the 70's - 80's!
Posted by:ali | April 26, 2008 at 03:04 AM
I don't remember this shampoo either, but my aunt gave it to me for my birthday one year (like age 20!) - which I thought was random...but whatever! I remember thinking it smelled like cough syrup. In the 70's maybe cough syrup really was "Terrific" though. Oh, and PS - i think we established you're not too far ahead of me in years - so you can't possibly be old! :)
