I'm so proud of him! Our oldest son, Jack. He's turned into such a little philanthropist.
We've always felt very strongly that we've been blessed with a healthy family, good jobs, and great friends and that what we need to give back to the community. It started when I went to college, joined a sorority and participated in all of the fundraising events there, graduated and did volunteer work for the Utah Aids Foundation, and then joined the Jr. League to continue to help women and children in our community. After having kids I gave up the majority of my community service work; we manage to participate in a few fundraisers each year including The Multiple Sclerosis Society and Wasatch Adaptive Sports.
This weekend Nick and I went to a fund raiser for Wasatch Adaptive Sports. Wasatch Adaptive Sports is a ski and summeer program for children and adults with special needs. Nick's company supports this program and we attend their annual fundraiser each year. It's such a great program, I always come away from the fundraiser feeling so much compassion for families that particpate in this program and wish I had more time to volunteer with this amazing organization.
Anyway, I'm getting off track - back to Jack! As we were getting ready to leave for the fund raiser on Saturday night, he asked where we were going. We explained the organization to him and that we were going to an event that would enable more kids to participate.
He ran upstairs and came back carrying $10 that he had taken from his piggy bank. He held it out to us and said, "Here's $10 to give to those people tonight. I love to ski and I want anyone that wants to ski to be able to ski like I do". After that Sam promptly ran upstairs and came back down with $2 from his piggybank, not wanting to be left out.
Such amazing things to see coming from our kids. I'm so glad they really 'get' what we're doing and why!
